General description

Saanio & Riekkola Consulting Engineers is a Finnish consulting company specialising exclusively in rock mechanics and tunneling technology. In operation since 1962, the company currently employs some 20 highly trained professionals working in the disciplines of geology, rock mechanics and tunnel engineering.

Since the middle of the 1980s, an important part of the company's activities in Finland has been the management of site investigations and the design and technical development of nuclear waste repositories. The underground final repository for low and intermediate level nuclear waste at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant on Finland's west coast is also one of the company's recent projects.

In the field of traditional civil engineering, references include a wide variety of projects such as underground facilities for hydroelectric power plants, civil defence shelters, metro stations, traffic tunnels, car parks, water tunnels, underground laboratories and telecommunication shelters.
